Glenpool sits about thirteen miles south of downtown Tulsa along the US-75 corridor in southern Tulsa County. The town’s identity is bound to the November 1905 Glenn Pool oil discovery on Ida E. Glenn’s farm by wildcatters Robert Galbreath and Frank Chesley, a strike that drew Oklahoma’s first true petroleum boom and eventually made Tulsa the “Oil Capital of the World.” For that reason Glenpool has long been called “The Town That Made Tulsa Famous.” The townsite was platted in 1906, the population peaked during the boom at over 3,000, dropped to a few hundred by mid-century, and has climbed back through the postwar growth waves to roughly 14,000 today.
